Postgraduate study in Scotland

Many of the postgraduate courses have an option to start in January. For a January start date you will generally study from January-April, then break for the summer. You’ll study again from September-December and complete your degree from January-April the following year.

There are several advantages to starting your programme in January, including being in Edinburgh over the summer to take advantage of the city’s famous festivals. You’ll also be able to use the summer to find valuable part-time or full-time work to boost your career. A handful of our postgraduate courses also start in June, which has similar advantages to beginning your course in January. Check your chosen programme on our website to find possible start dates.

Studying one of our courses part-time offers greater flexibility, allowing you to balance your studies with work or other responsibilities. Whether you’re upskilling or retraining, part-time study allows you to continue your professional experience while enhancing your education at the same time.

The advantages to studying full-time are that the course is usually shorter, meaning that if you’re taking a break from work, or coming from elsewhere to study, the skills you gain will be fast-tracked back into your life and career.

We think that all our students will get so much out of living in Edinburgh, but we know that's not right for everyone.

Our online programmes might suit you best if you are balancing work, study and life. You can start with us at one of three points in the year and, depending on availability, choose to take one or two modules per trimester. With only the assessment deadline dates fixed, you can also progress through the course materials at your own pace, keeping you even more flexible. Your course fee payments are designed for convenience too – you’ll pay per module, so you don’t need to cover the full programme cost upfront.
