At Napier Talks, final degree exhibitions and student showcases, you can discover the innovation that defines our community. These events offer insight into creative projects, hands-on technology and real-world research, and are open to prospective students, school groups, industry professionals, employers, and the public.

At a university open day or postgraduate event, you can meet lecturers, talk to academics, and explore the campus, including key university facilities through campus tours. Do I need to attend an open day and is it worth it?

You don’t have to attend an open day or postgraduate event to apply to ENU, but visiting can make a big difference to how you feel when you write your application. Experiencing a campus, speaking to staff and students, and seeing facilities in person can help you feel confident in your decision.

What's the difference between open days, campus tours, and postgraduate events?

Undergraduate open days in Scotland are designed primarily for future students exploring full-time study for their first degree, however we also do welcome mature students, parents, and even younger siblings who aren’t ready for university yet.

Campus tours are smaller, more focused visits to see facilities, these often take place on or during open days as well as separately throughout the year.

Postgraduate events are usually in the evening and are tailored sessions for those considering further study, often with subject-specific content. Once a year we host a postgraduate event on campus, and once a year we host our lecturers and academics at an events venue in the centre of town, so that prospective postgraduate students who might be career changers can access all the information they need.

Can I visit if no open days are available?

Yes – there are other ways of visiting a university in the UK. Campus tours and smaller events give you a similar insight into what happens at a university open day, with opportunities to explore and ask questions. You can also explore our campuses virtually, and take a look at our student accommodation webpages to get a feel for student life before or after attending an open day or evening event.

What should I prioritise to get the most out of my visit?

Planning tips for open days include: attending subject talks, exploring facilities, and preparing questions before you visit. Bring a ‘visiting university checklist’ of the things that are most important to you, keep notes during the day, and bring any essentials for listening to a full day of information, to help you make the most of your experience.

Can I view university accommodation during an event or arrange to see it separately?

Our biggest undergraduate events include university accommodation tours so you can see Napier university’s student accommodation in Edinburgh. To avoid disappointment book in your accommodation tour as soon as you arrive at open day, because there are limited spots available. If you miss out, you can get in touch with our team to arrange a separate visit or explore other types of accommodation options, especially when planning where to stay if you have to travel and stay overnight for open day.

What's the best way to travel to Edinburgh for a university event?

There are excellent transport links, making travel to university open days straightforward. You can plan how to get to Edinburgh Napier using rail, bus, tram or car, depending on your location.

Bus: services will take you between our campuses and all across the city for a flat fare. Full time students are eligible for a Student Ridacard, making travel even cheaper. The no. 36 Lothian bus links all of our campuses.

Rail: Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket train stations offer access to the whole of Scotland and the UK, frequent buses or trams link these major stations to our campuses.

Tram: is a great way to get across the city and also runs through the centre of town, past our Sighthill campus and out to the airport. You can use your Student Ridacard on trams in the city too.

Parking: We highly recommend taking public transport to our open days and events, as parking on campus is often limited. If you drive to Edinburgh to an event we recommend using one of the Lothian buses park and ride facilities to connect onto the public transport network to arrive on campus.

Can parents or supporters attend events with me?

Yes – parents, guardians and supporters are welcome, come to our events with friends or even bring a sibling to open days. They can join sessions, explore campuses and learn more about the support available throughout your university journey too.

How do different university events help me learn more about Edinburgh Napier University?

Open days and other public university events offer different perspectives – from large open days to smaller tours, public lectures, and degree show student showcases. Attending more than one event can help you compare options and feel confident in your decision if you’re choosing to study here.
