An Edinburgh Napier University [ENU] lecturer in neonatal nursing has been named an MBE in the King’s Birthday Honours List.

Anne Moylan was named among esteemed company in the annual list of people those who have made remarkable contributions to society.

The honour is the latest recognition in a career dedicated to nursing. Anne first graduated as a general nurse in 1980, then trained as a midwife before going on to complete a Master’s as an advanced neonatal nurse practitioner.Anne Moylan

At ENU, she is Programme Leader for the Qualification in Speciality of Neonatal Care - a postgraduate qualification that is still the first of its kind in Scotland.

In the autumn of 2023, she graduated alongside the first cohort of its students, as she studied for her own Postgraduate Certificate in Research Development Skills simultaneously.

Her MBE recognises her outstanding contribution to neonatal nursing in Scotland and teaching overseas, through the charity Newborns Vietnam.

As part of a partnership with ENU, this saw Anne contribute her expertise to a wider effort to reduce newborn mortality in Vietnam through improved neonatal care and education throughout many regions.

Anne said: “I felt both thrilled and deeply honoured when I read the letter.

“This recognition is not just for me, but for all neonatal nurses and midwives who work tirelessly to care for the smallest and most vulnerable babies and their families. I hope it helps raise awareness of their incredible skill, compassion, and dedication, and highlights the importance of improving neonatal care and education globally.”
