This course is aimed at dentists, opticians and registered nurses to provide the statutory training to authorise medical treatment under Section 47.
This module will provide the statutory training for specified health professionals (currently, dentists, opticians and registered nurses) to authorise medical treatment permitted under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.
There are two components to this training:
- Delivery of materials and case studies
- Assessment
Entry criteria
This course is aimed at dentists, opticians and registered nurses.
There are no specific academic requirements if you are in one of these categories. However, for your application to be accepted you must identify a workplace supervisor who has (a) already successfully undertaken the training; and (b) provided written consent to act as your supervisor.
Course dates and duration
This course is open for enrolment now to study online at your own pace.
Materials will be available to access after you have completed the booking form.
Delivery mode
This course is delivered fully online with a blend of materials available in our virtual learning environment, and voluntary online monthly sessions.
Delivery will involve:
- Familiarise yourself with the law using materials accessed in our virtual learning environment, Moodle, with references and links to other information and resources
- Join voluntarily our monthly online session that provides participants with the opportunity to discuss and apply the knowledge acquired via provided case studies and/or examples of your own professional experience.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment will involve:
- Supervisor supported assessments of capacity;
- Completing a S47 certificate;
- A reflective case-based account of 2,000 words to demonstrate participants’ learning in practice and achievement of the learning outcomes.
