Learn to effectively teach the Higher Music Technology Listening (SQA Higher qualifications) on this practical, online course for music teachers.

Our Higher Question Paper course is designed to provide you with tried and tested teaching approaches, and greater insight and understanding of the concepts and knowledge required for the SQA Higher Music Technology question paper.

What will I learn?

This online CLPL supports music teachers who are developing their ability to teach the Higher level Music Technology Listening effectively. The course will focus on the listening aspect of the Higher Music Technology qualification and will support learners in identifying specific recording and production concepts, techniques and approaches, aurally.

In addition, the course will cover music industry concepts including, for example, intellectual property rights. The course will provide support in developing a deep understanding of technology concepts and how they relate to the Higher listening exam. The course will also explain the different question types used within the exam and will provide approaches to teach pupils to answer them effectively.

The course will consist of demonstration and analysis of listening concepts, information sharing, and will provide time for discussion. The course is delivered online and is supported through Moodle, our Virtual Learning Environment, where you will be able to access resources such as lesson plans, video tutorials, and guides, that will provide ongoing support for you in your role as a music technology teacher.

Entry criteria

This course is open to all teachers who intend to teach, or who have recently started teaching, SQA Higher Music Technology.

Course dates and duration

Next course dates are to be confirmed.

Most recently, the course opened on Moodle on 24 February 2026, with a 'live' online class on Wednesday 11 March, 7-9pm.

Delivery mode

The course requires four hours of self-study online via the course Moodle site in advance of a two hour in-person online class where any questions you have can be answered and topics and teaching approaches can be explored and explained.

Course fees are £100 +VAT.

There will be no formal assessment.
