The authors have been working closely with Deductive Systems Ltd. (DSL) in beta testing Generis, a new KBMS product. The paper focuses on Generis' document management facilities which offer a potentially powerful mechanism for automatic indexing, keyword searching and the incorporation of documents as attributes of entities modelled in the system. The utility of this feature is discussed with reference to an academic bibliographic retrieval system which has been implemented at Napier Polytechnic.
