I have a tendency to write very quiet, high pitched music and having suffered from a hearing loss for about 10 years I decided it was time to write something I would not have to strain to hear. This work is therefore quite unlike anything I have written to date in that there are a series of loud, abrupt outbursts of sound. I have also scored sections of the work for smaller forces within the orchestra, trying to work with instrumental combinations I have never explored before.
During the second year of my Undergraduate studies I discovered John Cage whose music and writing have come to mean a great deal to me. The title refers to his date of birth.
